Ravne na Koroškem, 21 December 2021 – SIJ Metal Ravne is conducting a test run of a new modern dedusting system. The 2.7 million euro investment delivers a comprehensive system for dedusting and capturing dispersed emissions from the electric arc furnace at the steelworks. This is another milestone for SIJ Metal Ravne on its journey towards a green industry.
In November, a new modern dedusting system was put into operation at SIJ Metal Ravne, the second largest company in the SIJ Group and the third largest producer of tool steel in the European Union. Thanks to the 2.7-million-euro investment the steelworks now has a comprehensive dedusting and capturing of dispersed emissions from the electric arc furnace.
The environmental aspect and the provision of the best available technologies are among the key parameters for the SIJ Group in deciding on investments in new equipment and technologies. That is why the roll out of the project was entrusted to the Slovenian company Handte-Ost Zaščita okolja, which has longstanding experience in providing solutions for cleaning waste flue gases in heavy industry at home and abroad.
Kristijan Plesnik, Head of Investment at SIJ Metal Ravne details how the system works and its purpose: “The new modern dedusting system at SIJ Metal Ravne is currently the most advanced technology for capturing emissions and filtering and collecting dust particles formed in the electric arc furnace during the production of steel, and provides the most efficient protection from flue gas and noise emissions.” Borut Urnaut, Managing Director of SIJ Metal Ravne has the following to say about the reliability of the system and its significance for SIJ Metal Ravne, and for the local community and the wider environment: “With the 2.7 million euro investment in the comprehensive dedusting system we can efficiently capture the emissions dispersed during steel production in the electric arc furnace. This means that the otherwise harmless red clouds of dust that occasionally appeared over the steelworks have become a thing of the past. This is another milestone for SIJ Metal Ravne on its way towards a green industry.”
